Evel Caleknievel Makes Appearance

Occasional Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series driver Cale Finley also competed on a part-time basis during the recently-completed 2022 Crate Racin’ USA Weekly Racing Series season at tracks such as North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala., Moulton Speedway in Danville, Ala., and Duck River Speedway in Wheel, Tenn.

Finley, who owns and operates the successful CFR Performance Parts & Fabrication in Limestone County, Ala., frequently shows up on the organization’s regular touring series, and was on hand at Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, Ga., for the 60-lap Showdown on the Coast held Oct. 13-15 at the half-mile oval.

The man behind the steering wheel remained the same, but his car carried a new nickname on the roof above each door: EvelCaleknievel.

“Jeff Bennett from Sign Here in Winchester, Tenn., designed the new color scheme for us,” Finley said, nodding toward his red, white and blue-wrapped design, which was a definite nod towards the flamboyant 70s stunt driver who entertained thousands with his notorious motorcycle jumps on a Harley Davidson while dressed in his famed red, white and blue leathers.”

“I told him I wanted the car to look like something Evel Knievel would drive,” Finley said. “We ended up putting that name on the roof.”
